All About the Artisan in her own words:

I love to create. Since I was a child,I have always been busy with various forms of fiber work including knitting, crochet, needlepoint, embroidery and weaving. Alongside of those interests was that famous old cookie tin of buttons that I loved to play with. After a fulfilling career in education followed by the ease of online selling, I now devote myself fulltime to combining fibers and buttons. I also love and make clocks, magnets and bookmarks. I love special orders so please don’t hesitate to ask. I am proud of my 100% feedback selling online with several hundred items off to new homes.

In April 2007 a book called Button!Button! was published and several of my creations were included (pictures below). It was a very exciting experience.

We are Artisans helping Artisans!  Buy Homemade!

I have been very fortunate to make many new friends at Zibbet.  All of these artisans are unique, not only in their art and crafts but their friendships.

We are all able and ready to lend advise, opinions, support and help to fellow artisans whenever possible.    Our backgrounds are different and diverse but we all share a common goal.

Starting tomorrow, I am going to feature  one of them daily.  We all work at supporting each other and making Zibbet.com a fun and friendly shopping experience.  With the Christmas Season fast approaching it is time to start thinking about shopping.  See all of the unique and affordable items you can purchase for family, friends and your furbabies!

Yes, this is it.  All of my scrap yarn jumbled together in one humungous pile.  There are partial balls, uncompleted projects and handfuls all thrown in together.  What a mess!  I finally have had enough and decided end this disorganization once and for all.

With all of the patience I could muster, I slowly tackled this mess and rewound balls, pulled apart unfinished pieces and all of the other pieces .  Each color was then wound neatly and set aside carefully.  I was so happy that I had gotten that far until the one question popped into my head – “How are you going to store it?”  Well the good old zip lock bag trick was useless and putting them into an old cookie tin would only end in the same mess.  Then it hit me!  I had the answer all along in my fridge!

Yes, in my fridge.  And here it is –

You can’t see it very well but each cup holds a ball of yarn.   They will now stay separated and neat.  I am so proud of myself.  It has only taken me forever to come up with this idea.

Yes, I am a little slow but at least I come up with something in the end.  Sometimes frustration does have it’s benefits.

I know this is a very dumb question but please forgive me as I am a Canadian.

I live in an area that is not bothered by floods, tornadoes, hurricanes or other similar weather.     But I do remember vividly watching all about the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.  I also remember all of the animals who were forced to survive as best they could alone.  Many did survive and many did not.

As I read the information on the website of the ASPCA –  I learned just how horrible it was.   My own dog, Buck the beagle, is a rescue from a shelter in Ontario, but his story is nowhere near as heart wrenching as the animals after Katrina.   They also have a slide show of some of the rescues and it went straight to my heart.  If you look at each face, you will see looks of fear, relief, gratefulness, sadness, anticipation, confusion or loneliness.   This was the biggest animal rescue in history.  So many animal lovers helped save many of those animals with their search efforts, adoptions, temporary care, and donations.    But it doesn’t stop there.

The ASPCA is still out there helping animals with legislation, education, and caring.  As the IndieSmiles Charity Birthday Bash continues all month, please take the time to visit them and donate.  There are still so many cats, dogs, horses, birds and numerous other pets out there needing help.   There is never a need to great, never a donation too small and never an animal not worth the time.  Just look at your own pet(s) and you will understand.

I am not a fan of Mondays. This is a holiday Monday and I have the blues.

Nothing new in Friday’s mailbox and the weekend has been quiet. I have managed to get more crocheting done and am working on some ATC (Artist Trading Cards). I needed a break as my fingers were getting tired. It is a slow process and I hope to use them as business cards and include them in some of my orders. I’ll probably do a tutorial on IndieSmiles and will keep you updated.

It has finally cooled down here in Ontario, Canada and I can officially declare that Autumn has arrived. The kids go back to school tomorrow and I can get back into my school year routine. My son is not happy about this but he is getting to that age and would rather sleep in. Oh, Well!

It’s a very drab day outside and incredibly quiet in the neighbourhood. Buck the beagle is snoring away behind me and our grandfather clock in the hallway just chimed 11a.m. ten minutes early again. I guess I had better get hubby to fix that today. Ho-hum. Another Monday.

Yes, it is still hot up here. Hope we get a break soon.

Here is the surprise in the mailbox yesterday. It came all wrapped up with a pretty pink envelope and note. What a treat when I opened up the package and found all of this –

Fat quarters, red ric rac, patterned ribbon and a super reusable shopping bag. I am going to keep the bag in my purse for any of those “I am only going in to grab one thing” shopping trips. This came from the “Sewing swap with a twist” swap at Swap-bot. I am so lucky!

My computer has died! I am lost without it. I now have to use the boy’s computer and all of my favorites, files, pictures, etc. are on mine. It is like starting all over again. Drat!!

I did get more Bookmark Swap mail yesterday. This lovely handmade bookmark came from Michagan. I love it and the little heart shaped note.

This one on the left came all the way from Australia. I was delighted to find 3 bookmarks in this envelope. One is handmade. I love them all.

Tomorrow is IndieSmiles First Birthday! There will be lots going on and contests to enter. If you have never heard of IndieSmiles then drop over and have a look. That is where I am an ocassional colomnist and write about many things. Check out my columns in my page – “What I Babble About”.

Watch for my blog tomorrow for more details.

Lots going on today and this weekend around here.

Our grandson, who is the same age as our boy, is coming over for a few days. These two have a lot in common and get along famously. All I have to do is feed them and they are quite happy to look after themselves the rest of the time.

Look what I got in the mail on Thursday! This is from the Freaky Fiber Swap. All the way from England and full of wonderful colours, textures, inspiration. I was so excited when I opened the package.

I have been following the blog – Southern Lady’s Vintage and have thoroughly enjoyed it. They are having a Vintage Loves Saturday feature and the first is about cookbooks. Well, I just had to show off my mom’s favorite cookbook – The Good Housekeeping Cookbook from the 1940’s. It is ragged, torn, stained and well used. There is no cover and I have to keep it in a zip lock bags so any of the loose pages don’t fall out and get lost. No I am just about 60 years old and I remember this book when I was a little girl. I can tell which recipes were my mom’s favorites by the amount of stains or writing on the page. I even found a hand written recipe tucked inside as well. This book conjures up so many wonderful memories for me as I sit here now.

Drop on over and have a look at this site. Maybe you have a favorite vintage cookbook that you can share as well. Everyone is welcome.

My crochet hooks are flying and the yarn and thread is sizzling.  I have been crocheting up a storm alright.

I now have 2 cowls finished and a third one just about done.  I have love for cowls as they are easier than scarves to put on and wear.  When I used to take the train to work and home, I always saw the ladies struggling to put on their scarves and coats.  They were bumping into each other and swaying wildly as the train pulled into the station.  and I was one of them.  Then there was the struggle to unwind the scarf or, if a shorter scarf, find it all askew under the coat.  Ah yes, those were the days.  I now find it far easier to slip on a cowl and end the madness of the scarf.

I’ve also have the very large trivet/hot pad finished.  Now that was fun and I am now thinking of how to use that pattern for smaller items.  It will fit your largest pot or your best casserole with ease.  Everything is in my shop – Jillys Stuff.

Time to get back to the hooks and yarn.  I have more plans and patterns to start or complete.

I hate humidity!   I can handle the heat but I hate it when it is sticky and muggy out.  That is what it is like today and I hate it.   I want to do so many things but my mood now prevents me from getting any enthusiasm over anything.   I think I will go sit in the corner and pout.

I did receive an envelope in the mail yesterday full of wonderful Start Christmas Swap items.   Lovely paper, ribbon and tags to start my christmas projects with.   Now this cheers me up a little and I love all of the snowmen and bright colors.   Maybe if I stare at all of this long enough I will get a tiny bit of inspiration.

I think I will go and have a third cup of coffee.  Maybe that will help me get going, or not.
