All About Jilly and Her Stuff

Yes, this is it.  All of my scrap yarn jumbled together in one humungous pile.  There are partial balls, uncompleted projects and handfuls all thrown in together.  What a mess!  I finally have had enough and decided end this disorganization once and for all.

With all of the patience I could muster, I slowly tackled this mess and rewound balls, pulled apart unfinished pieces and all of the other pieces .  Each color was then wound neatly and set aside carefully.  I was so happy that I had gotten that far until the one question popped into my head – “How are you going to store it?”  Well the good old zip lock bag trick was useless and putting them into an old cookie tin would only end in the same mess.  Then it hit me!  I had the answer all along in my fridge!

Yes, in my fridge.  And here it is –

You can’t see it very well but each cup holds a ball of yarn.   They will now stay separated and neat.  I am so proud of myself.  It has only taken me forever to come up with this idea.

Yes, I am a little slow but at least I come up with something in the end.  Sometimes frustration does have it’s benefits.

My computer has died! I am lost without it. I now have to use the boy’s computer and all of my favorites, files, pictures, etc. are on mine. It is like starting all over again. Drat!!

I did get more Bookmark Swap mail yesterday. This lovely handmade bookmark came from Michagan. I love it and the little heart shaped note.

This one on the left came all the way from Australia. I was delighted to find 3 bookmarks in this envelope. One is handmade. I love them all.

Tomorrow is IndieSmiles First Birthday! There will be lots going on and contests to enter. If you have never heard of IndieSmiles then drop over and have a look. That is where I am an ocassional colomnist and write about many things. Check out my columns in my page – “What I Babble About”.

Watch for my blog tomorrow for more details.

I have been busy this past weekend and I need today to rest up.

Saturday turned out to be my computer tech’s (hubby) day on my computer to fix some things on it.  I decided to spend the day catching up on all of my crocheting and crafting.  It seems I got about 5 projects started but none are completed.  Between running upstairs to answer questions – “How long has this icon been here?”, “Um, I don’t know!”  or  “When did this start?” , “Um, a long time ago.”  As you can tell, I was not the a popular person that day.

On Sunday the Blog Swap at Swap-bots started.  I spent most of the day reading and commenting on about 25 blogs.  I learned so many new things and have several links to investigate.   I’ve read and am following blogs from all over the world.  I love to read about all of the different things from different cultures and people.  Every one is unique.

I did manage to complete one of Saturday’s projects as well.  If you need a large trivet or hot pad, then here it is.    It was crocheted with a navy tweed yarn and edged with a light celery green yarn.  I used those canning jar rings for this pattern.  It measures about 9.5″ round and is machine washable.

I also finished 3 bookmarks to send in another swap and complete a custom order for shipping.

I’ve done my trip to the post office already this morning and am now going to sit and contemplate life as I play one of my computer games.   Gosh, I may even have a little nap in my chair.  The beagle and I will snore together.  Such a life!

Mondays are back to the old routine days around here and it doesn’t matter what time of year it is.

I have joined up with Swap-Bot and have had fun so far.  I have received some wonderful teas and notes in the first swap and really great information about herbs in the Folklore swap.  I’ll put some of them in later this week.

This is a good way to get rid of some of the things that you can’t use and get other items that you can.  I keep a stash box handy and keep it filled with fabric, ribbon, stickers, trims, etc. and use them just for swapping.  I hope I get a package in the mail today.

I have met some really nice ladies so far from all over the world and right around the corner.  I have started a list of Swap-Bot friends with blogs as well  so you can go and see what they are up to.

Time to go and do the laundry now and finish up some projects that need to get out this week.  Have a great day!

No, not stumbling along as I walk but on the site Stumble Upon.  I have had such fun and found many new and interesting things.

At Stumble Upon, you tick off of the list all of the subjects you are interested in and then go and stumble.  You end up with a random hodgepodge of articles, blogs, pictures, photographs and heaven knows what else.   It is quite an experience that everyone should try at least once.

To date, I have learned how to make a terrarium in an old lightbulb, what dogs really think, how to do all kinds of crafts, where the best places are to shop, eat and drink, the best ways to save and invest money and so much more.  I’ve seen some amazing animal and nature photographs from amateur photographers right along with professionals like  National Geographic.   I even saved one as my screen saver.  Aaahhh, so relaxing.

This has to be about the best thing I have found on the internet.  Every time you click the stumble button a new surprize shows up.  You will never know exactly what it will be but it will be within the categories you are interested in.  So, start stumbling today!  Be prepared to be amazed, amused, awed, and intrigued.  Stumbling can be fun!

I have always had a passion for Victorian Ladies Hats, mainly because I love vintage and I can’t wear hats as I look gaudy in them.

These pincushions give me the chance to explore my vintage creative side and make something useful at the same time.  Pincushions are fabulous items to make and creating one is always received with delight and joy. I have hand sewn the top to the brim and some of the  embellishments  are also hand sewn as well for extra security.

These 3 wide brim hats are inspired from the Lady Diane website who fashions gorgeous hats for very special occasions like The Kentucky Derby.  Diane truly has a flare for designing and creating these works of art.  Drop by her website and see for yourself.

I am exploring  into creating different styles such as the Small French hats and Teardrop styles as soon as I can find the appropriate materials for them.  I will probably pick up my crochet hook and make them myself.

I am also looking into little doll pincushions as well.  I have a picture of one and she looks wonderful.  Can’t wait to get my supplies together for one of these.

Don’t forget that these pincushions can be purchased from my online shop, JILLYS STUFF.

Back to the creating desk now.  Keep watching for more pincushion creations from Jillys Stuff.

I am so excited!  My very first tutorial has been published on IndieSmiles.

This is my first attempt at making homemade dyes from berries.  What a fun experience.  With the guidance and encouragement from Barbra of All About The Buttons , I ventured into the world of writing.

I love this site and am constantly browsing through the many shops from all kinds of venues.   I love handmade, both making and purchasing.   I get the greatest satisfaction from giving one of my handmade items to family and friends.  Everyone knows how much effort I have put into my creations and that many are geared especially for them.

Drop by IndieSmiles and All About The Buttons today!  If you love handmade then you will be glad you did!
