I have been very fortunate to make many new friends at Zibbet.  All of these artisans are unique, not only in their art and crafts but their friendships.

We are all able and ready to lend advise, opinions, support and help to fellow artisans whenever possible.    Our backgrounds are different and diverse but we all share a common goal.

Starting tomorrow, I am going to feature  one of them daily.  We all work at supporting each other and making Zibbet.com a fun and friendly shopping experience.  With the Christmas Season fast approaching it is time to start thinking about shopping.  See all of the unique and affordable items you can purchase for family, friends and your furbabies!

I think that most followers know my sidekick, Buck the beagle.  Where ever I am in the house is where you will find him.  He is 7 years old and was rescued from a pound just before he was to be euthanized (more like a bullet in the head, it’s cheaper).  He was our first foster dog and just never left.  He is just my speed when we walk and I can always count on him to cheer me up when the day is cold and gray.  We did adopt him and we all couldn’t be happier.

We have an adoptee in temporary residence with us now.  This is Bamboo!

He is the most loveable Pug mix with tons of personality.  I don’t know if he was abandoned or owner surrendered, all I know is that he has an abundance of love for whoever adopts him.

Don’t let the docile look fool you.  When it comes to going out for a walk you must deal with a whirlwind.  It is like trying to harness Tigger.  He gets so excited and just can’t wait for you to get ready.  Buck, on the other hand, is more like Eeyore and sits patiently.  What a pair.

I think nearly every adult has had a pet at some point in their lives.  I have always been a cat lover and have owned many.   There was the white cat named  Charlie Brown by my daughter.  Then there was Taurus the tortoise shell, and Miss Fluff our very prissy black and white longhair and finally Mischief, my black shorthaired ball of mischief.  All of the cats survived to old age with the exception of Mischief who died at age 3.

I was devastated and cried for days.  Mischief was everything to me.  I could always count on him to get into”mischief”, hence the name.  I was very hesitant to go with another cat as I felt so responsible for Mischief’s passing and could not bear to think I may kill another one.  It was just way to hard for me.  Our son had been hinting about owning a dog, so, since he was old enough I thought it would maybe be a good time to try one out.  I was so lonely during the day and desperately needed another companion, and that is when Buck came to us.

None of these pets were purebred and they all just needed a forever home for one reason or another.  I guess I have been rescuing for most of my life and have always had a companion around.   Each one has been a joy and blessing wrapped in fur.   There is nothing like the comfort of a pet.   They play many roles in your life, therapist,  psychologist, entertainer, friend, bodyguard, nursemaid, you name it.

Now I am surrounded with all of this and more.  Luckily my hubby is the same and enjoys these dogs as much as I do.  They can be a lot of work but I have the time now and can devote it to my family and furbabies.  What a wonderful life I have.

Yes, this is it.  All of my scrap yarn jumbled together in one humungous pile.  There are partial balls, uncompleted projects and handfuls all thrown in together.  What a mess!  I finally have had enough and decided end this disorganization once and for all.

With all of the patience I could muster, I slowly tackled this mess and rewound balls, pulled apart unfinished pieces and all of the other pieces .  Each color was then wound neatly and set aside carefully.  I was so happy that I had gotten that far until the one question popped into my head – “How are you going to store it?”  Well the good old zip lock bag trick was useless and putting them into an old cookie tin would only end in the same mess.  Then it hit me!  I had the answer all along in my fridge!

Yes, in my fridge.  And here it is –

You can’t see it very well but each cup holds a ball of yarn.   They will now stay separated and neat.  I am so proud of myself.  It has only taken me forever to come up with this idea.

Yes, I am a little slow but at least I come up with something in the end.  Sometimes frustration does have it’s benefits.

I know this is a very dumb question but please forgive me as I am a Canadian.

I live in an area that is not bothered by floods, tornadoes, hurricanes or other similar weather.     But I do remember vividly watching all about the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.  I also remember all of the animals who were forced to survive as best they could alone.  Many did survive and many did not.

As I read the information on the website of the ASPCA –  I learned just how horrible it was.   My own dog, Buck the beagle, is a rescue from a shelter in Ontario, but his story is nowhere near as heart wrenching as the animals after Katrina.   They also have a slide show of some of the rescues and it went straight to my heart.  If you look at each face, you will see looks of fear, relief, gratefulness, sadness, anticipation, confusion or loneliness.   This was the biggest animal rescue in history.  So many animal lovers helped save many of those animals with their search efforts, adoptions, temporary care, and donations.    But it doesn’t stop there.

The ASPCA is still out there helping animals with legislation, education, and caring.  As the IndieSmiles Charity Birthday Bash continues all month, please take the time to visit them and donate.  There are still so many cats, dogs, horses, birds and numerous other pets out there needing help.   There is never a need to great, never a donation too small and never an animal not worth the time.  Just look at your own pet(s) and you will understand.

Hi everyone!

It’s IndieSmiles 1st birthday and we’re having a charity birthday bash to support ASPCA.
100% of the funds donated will go to ASPCA minus the PayPal fees. There are prizes for cutest pet and best handcraft items. Several of our artisans have donated prizes.
Check out this link: http://www.indiesmiles.com/charity-birthday-bash/ and join the celebration!

Lots going on today and this weekend around here.

Our grandson, who is the same age as our boy, is coming over for a few days. These two have a lot in common and get along famously. All I have to do is feed them and they are quite happy to look after themselves the rest of the time.

Look what I got in the mail on Thursday! This is from the Freaky Fiber Swap. All the way from England and full of wonderful colours, textures, inspiration. I was so excited when I opened the package.

I have been following the blog – Southern Lady’s Vintage and have thoroughly enjoyed it. They are having a Vintage Loves Saturday feature and the first is about cookbooks. Well, I just had to show off my mom’s favorite cookbook – The Good Housekeeping Cookbook from the 1940’s. It is ragged, torn, stained and well used. There is no cover and I have to keep it in a zip lock bags so any of the loose pages don’t fall out and get lost. No I am just about 60 years old and I remember this book when I was a little girl. I can tell which recipes were my mom’s favorites by the amount of stains or writing on the page. I even found a hand written recipe tucked inside as well. This book conjures up so many wonderful memories for me as I sit here now.

Drop on over and have a look at this site. Maybe you have a favorite vintage cookbook that you can share as well. Everyone is welcome.

I hate humidity!   I can handle the heat but I hate it when it is sticky and muggy out.  That is what it is like today and I hate it.   I want to do so many things but my mood now prevents me from getting any enthusiasm over anything.   I think I will go sit in the corner and pout.

I did receive an envelope in the mail yesterday full of wonderful Start Christmas Swap items.   Lovely paper, ribbon and tags to start my christmas projects with.   Now this cheers me up a little and I love all of the snowmen and bright colors.   Maybe if I stare at all of this long enough I will get a tiny bit of inspiration.

I think I will go and have a third cup of coffee.  Maybe that will help me get going, or not.
